Preparedness in the Caribbean

The World Food Programme (WFP), through its Caribbean Multi-Country Office (MCO) in Barbados, is enhancing Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) preparedness across 22 Caribbean nations. Though the MCO began in 2018, ETC support in the region dates back to major emergencies, including the 2010 Haiti earthquake and Hurricanes Irma, Maria, and Dorian. These events highlighted the need for stronger regional coordination. Recent efforts have focused on technical training and capacity building to boost national and regional emergency telecom capabilities. This page highlights ETC’s work in disaster preparedness and response across the Caribbean.

CARIBBEAN COUNTRY PRIORITIZATION RATING

ETC’s Country Prioritization Approach CPA provides a data-driven assessment of the risk landscape across countries, helping to guide ETC's engagements. The map illustrates the distribution of risk values for countries in the Caribbean region, reflecting a composite score based on natural hazard exposure and ICT readiness
