Building resilience before the storm: Ericsson Response in the Caribbean

As the Caribbean enters hurricane season, preparedness is more than a precaution—it's a lifeline. In May 2025, two Ericsson Response volunteers were deployed to Barbados to support the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) and the World Food Programme (WFP) in strengthening ICT readiness across the region.
Over the course of two weeks, the team reviewed and updated emergency telecommunications equipment, delivered practical training on network setup, and ensured emergency response teams were confident in using satellite phones during crises. These efforts are part of a broader push to build local capacity and improve emergency communications when it matters most.
At the launch of the new WFP/CDEMA Caribbean Regional Logistics Hub, the ETC—supported by Ericsson Response—demonstrated a solar-powered, sustainable emergency communications network. The demonstration showed how quickly restored connectivity can make a critical difference in disaster response and coordination.
This mission highlights the impact of strong partnerships and hands-on collaboration in building long-term resilience throughout the Caribbean.
