Between 10–13 June 2025, three Pacific Waves Training Alliance modules—Mobile Satellite Systems (MSS) End User, Radio Telecommunications Systems (RTS) End User, and Training of Trainers (ToT–EDIP)—were delivered to 24 first responders in Tonga. Participants came from key agencies including MEIDECC, Maritime, Fisheries, Ports Authority, and Fire Services. Training was held at the Department of Communications in Nuku’alofa.

Using the Explanation, Demonstration, Imitation, Practice (EDIP) method, the training focused on practical knowledge transfer. 17 participants (71%) completed the evaluation, confirming the training met its objectives. All reported confidence in applying MSS & RTS skills in emergencies, while ToT participants also felt capable of training others using the EDIP method.

The programme strengthened national emergency communications capacity, promoted inter-agency collaboration, and established a strong foundation for future knowledge transfer and disaster preparedness in Tonga.
