Enabling digital access in Port Sudan: Connectivity for Al-Sadaqah camp

In early August 2025, the Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC), in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), deployed a mobile network to Al-Sadaqah camp in Port Sudan. The timing aligned with WFP’s cash-based assistance, enabling 240 refugees to access digital cash, banking, and support services using their UNHCR credentials.

This targeted deployment restored more than just connectivity—it reestablished autonomy and digital agency for displaced individuals who had been cut off from essential services. For many, it marked the first time in months they could manage their own resources, communicate with loved ones, and access humanitarian support independently.

The initiative demonstrates how strategic connectivity can amplify the impact of humanitarian aid. With additional funding, ETC aims to expand these services to more communities across Sudan, ensuring that digital inclusion becomes a cornerstone of emergency response.
