Let's Comm Hosting Requirements

Body

Any organisation can host this 7-day training course if they meet the requirements listed below. If you have any questions on any of these points, or you are interested in hosting this course, contact FITTEST Training Services.

Classroom Requirements

This course has a maximum of 12 students. Each student will need additional desk space for the technical equipment they will be using.  You can assume that a desk that normally comfortably seats 3 people will be able to just fit 2 people plus equipment.

In addition the classroom will need:

  • 3 desks for group equipment
  • 2 desks for instructors
  • WiFi access to the internet for all students & instructors
  • Plenty of power sockets (preferably European / Schuko sockets) per student
  • Ability to control room lighting and day light so the screen will be clearly visible
  • Ability to control the room temperature
  • Space for group activities away from the desks  (20 square metres +) - this could be a seperate room or an outdoor area
  • Space for packaging & boxes (6 square metres +)

Outdoor Requirements

This course includes one full day outdoors doing practical activities. The outdoor space must be secure (as equipment may be left unattended during breaks or overnight) and large enough to erect a 15 metre mast with HF & VHF antennas. Typically the space needs to be ~25 metres across to do this, as the mast will be assembled on the ground before being raised.

The area will need to be removed from the public and pedestrian & vehicle traffic as much as possible, as there is a small risk of the mast falling while it is being raised. Although our instructors ensure that the activity is done in as safe a manner as possible, the participants must all follow instructions exactly for the activity to be done safely.

Power must be supplied to the outdoor area to power the equipment. This can be done with a small generator or extension cables if a power source is close by.

One of the optional course objectives is to cover solar panels. If this is feasible for your event, then an outdoor area with good exposure to the sun will be required for a temporary demonstration and practical activity.

Equipment Storage

Any technical equipment for the course will be shipped before the event and will need to be stored securely. After the course is finished, it will need to be shipped back to the source.

Support Services

The course requires a reasonable level of logistical support, so the host needs to provide a Course Manager, described here. This person will take care of all local arrangements such as printing, catering, transportation and supporting the participants with accomodation and other arrangements.

During the course, access to a printer will be required, and stationary supplies will be needed for the learners.

Optional Extras

If possible, please also arrange these items to support the course learning objectives:

  • One field vehicle (i.e. Landcruiser) with both VHF and HF installed
  • One BGAN device for demonstration purposes
