By 2020 more than 5 billion people will have access to mobile phones and more than 4 billion will have access to high-speed internet—well over half of the world’s population. Almost 3 billion people are expected to become regular users of social media, and already today the most frequent users of the internet are in the developing world. When a natural disaster or conflict takes place, humanitarian organizations must be able to leverage technology to respond more effectively and efficiently.
