FITTEST member Rob Buurveld was on mission in Kabul conducting PABX training for the UNICEF team. This was Rob's first mission to Afghanistan as he tells us what it was like. 

IT Emergency Management training in Afghanistan

Back in May this year, I got the opportunity to deliver the two day IT Emergency Management field training package to the WFP ICT team in Kabul. Due to their busy schedule we had to struggle to find a time that would work for the team. To my surprise, the team put the participation of the training ahead of spending time with friends and family, and we took one and a half day off their weekend to do the training!

Kalim's story

"I was born in 1972, in a village in Wardak province. In 1978, when I was just 6 years old and in first class the coup that toppled the first presidential government in Afghanistan happened. It was in spring and, at that time, we used to go to school on a regular basis. The first year of the new regime passed well, the cold winter finished and when spring started some problems started as well in our province.."
