Connecting recovery in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa
In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, the Emergency Telecommunications Sector (ETS) has been on the ground in Jamaica, working alongside national authorities to restore critical connectivity and support the humanitarian response.
From the earliest days of the emergency, ETS teams have been assessing ICT needs and delivering tailored solutions to reconnect responders and accelerate recovery operations. Key achievements so far include:
π Internet activation at the WFP warehouse in Kingston, enabling faster cargo handling and streamlined logistics operations
π‘ Connectivity established at the temporary WFP office, with support from Ericsson Response and Cisco Crisis Response, ensuring responders can coordinate effectively
πΊοΈ Mapping of priority sites for shared connectivity services to keep humanitarian efforts moving swiftly and efficiently
As the response continues, ETS remains committed to enabling coordination and information flow where itβs needed most. More updates to follow as the situation evolves.
