This is a blended course and will include 4 weeks of virtual engagement prior to a 5-day in-person training. 

Dates:

 

  • Session 1 English: Online from 10 June to 5 July 2024 and classroom from 8 to 12 July 2024 
  • Session 2 English: Online from 17 June to 12 July 2024 and classroom from 15 to 19 July 2024 
  • Session 2 French: Online from 24 June to 19 July 2024 and classroom from 22 to 26 July 2024

 

Seats: 12  per session

Costs 

There is no fee for the course itself. Accommodation and meals during the classroom training will be covered. Participant travel including flights, terminals, allowance (as applicable) and other incidental costs must be covered by the sending organization.

 

Target Audience 

This course is primarily for humanitarian ICT staff with a telecommunication focus who need skills in deploying VHF radio infrastructure. Participants must already have a technical background in radio communications and be available for deployment in this type of role with their respective agencies. Knowledge of Motorola and/or ICOM programming as well as end-user experience is an advantage.   

 

SELECTION CRITERIA 

Pre-requisite: 

  • Commitment to deploy 

  • Technical skills and experience in radio communications 

  • Good interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude 

 

Desirable: 

  • Humanitarian and emergency experience 

  • Knowledge of ETC is desirable but not a pre-requisite 

  • Knowledge of Motorola and/or ICOM programming as well as end-user experience  

 

Please note: 

  • This is a blended programme. Participants will be expected to complete the online modules prior to the classroom training and will be expected to be fully engaged during the 5-day classroom training, including the evenings. Participants may not get the opportunity to carry on with their regular work for the duration of the training.

  1. Nomination Letter 

The nomination letter must meet the following requirements: 

  • Must come from a manager that is responsible for emergency IT and telecommunications across the applicant's organisation globally (for example, a CIO, Chief of IT, or Regional IT Officer).  

  • Please note that prior to requesting a nomination letter from the designated nominating authority, you must engage with your supervisor for endorsement and approval of the activity vis a vis your work profile, responsibilities and upcoming commitments.  

  • Be written on organizational / company letterhead 

  • Full name, organization and position title of the candidate being recommended 

  • Full name, organization and position title of the nominator 

  • Contact information of the nominator (email address / phone number) 

  • A statement indicating that the candidate will be released from official duties for the duration of the course. This includes dedicated time per week to complete online learning as well as official release for classroom training plus travel time. 

  • A statement that all expenses related to travel to / from the training and any other incidental costs will be covered by the nominating organisation. 

  • Confirmation statement outlining the following: 

  • Technical skills and experience in radio communications 

  • The likelihood / ability of the candidate being deployed to the field for an emergency in the future
